Why Dr.HDMI 4K
Before a single pixel moves, the source reads the EDID of whatever is plugged in and decides what it may send. If that EDID is wrong, missing or comes from the weakest device in the chain, you get a black screen, no HDR, or stereo where Atmos should be.

The unit answers as a display when there isn't one. Input equalisation extends a run to 50 metres and the +5V injector powers active cables the source can't drive on its own.

The job this box was built for, and the reason it is in most people's chain. The source asks the display what it supports, gets a confusing answer from a receiver, matrix or long cable run, and gives up. Dr.HDMI 4K ends that conversation on your terms: a clean fixed EDID and a proper hot-plug event, so the source configures itself once and stays configured. Turn the dial one bank lower and you have your next test in two seconds instead of another evening of swapping cables.
Receivers routinely report an EDID that costs you HDR, chroma or bandwidth. Put the unit in front of the source and it stops caring what the receiver claims.
A recurring forum case: the display's own EDID reports only Dolby Digital, so the receiver never sees TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. Pick a green FULLAUDIO bank and the source offers everything again.
Owners of Epson, JVC and Sony projectors use a bank without HDR or DV flags so the player tone maps to SDR itself rather than sending HDR the projector can't do justice.
Load an LLDV-capable EDID into a custom bank and your Apple TV 4K, Shield or player switches to player-led Dolby Vision. It genuinely works, with two conditions: your projector needs a forced HDR mode (LLDV carries no HDR infoframe), and tuning the DV max luminance means building the EDID yourself in an editor, because this unit has no setting for it. Want it with a knob instead of a hex editor? That is what the Arcana 2 and Vertex² are for.
Windows rearranges icons and forgets the resolution every time the TV powers off or the AVR switches input. HTPC mode hides the sink status, so the machine keeps thinking the display is there.
PS5 and Xbox Series X owners use it to present an EDID a gaming monitor doesn't offer by itself — 1080p120 for example, or one that advertises HDR. Everything has to fit inside 18Gbps, but within that limit the source outputs what the EDID says.
Integrators keep one in the chain to hold a media player, signage box or headless machine in a defined state, output alive, whether or not a display is switched on.
Cap the output at 1080p, 1080i, 720p or 4K30 by choosing a bank that advertises nothing more. Useful for older projectors, capture cards, video-over-IP extenders and second zones.
Input equalisation extends signal integrity up to 50 metres and the +5V injector powers active cables the source can't drive. For longer runs, pair it with an HDfury 4K fibre HDMI cable.
Give every leg of an installation the same fixed EDID instead of whatever the last connected display happened to negotiate.

The most common reason someone is disappointed by this box is buying it for a job it was never built for. On the forums that gets answered a dozen times a year, so here it is up front.
Rule of thumb
If the source is sending the wrong thing, or nothing at all, because of what it was told about the display — yes, and this is the right tool.
If the picture arrives but looks wrong, if copy protection is refused, or if audio and video need to go different ways — no, and a bigger HDfury is the answer.

EDID
Hold the rotary switch down to cycle tables: FHD, UHD 2CH, UHD 5.1, UHD FS and Custom. Press up or down for the eight banks inside, stop for a second, and the unit activates the EDID and fires a clean hot-plug event.

FAQ
With a power supply connected to the USB port it passes on as much as that supply can deliver. That is what makes the +5V injector useful for active cables.
Press up or down on the rotary button to move through the forty banks. Stop for about a second and the unit activates the selected EDID and starts the hot-plug event, telling the source that the EDID changed. That takes roughly two seconds, during which the EDID is locked. After that you are free to change it again.
Hold the rotary switch down in any position to cycle through the five tables: FHD, UHD 2CH, UHD 5.1, UHD FS and Custom. The LED colour confirms which table you are in.
It reads the EDID of the connected display and stores it in custom bank 8 on the white table. A hot-plug event follows automatically and completes in about two seconds.
Custom banks 1 to 7 on the white table are user programmable with the Windows utility. Bank 8 is reserved for the copied display EDID. The blue, green, yellow and red presets are factory set and only change with a firmware update.

No. The unit does its job standalone with the rotary control. The software is there when you want to write custom EDID tables, save a copied EDID or update the firmware.
In many setups, yes — this is the LLDV trick. Load an EDID that reports Dolby Vision support into a custom bank and your source outputs player-led Dolby Vision, doing the tone mapping itself. Two conditions: your projector needs a forced HDR mode, because LLDV carries no HDR infoframe, and tuning the maximum luminance in the DV block means building the EDID in an external editor first. If you want that as a setting rather than handwork, the Arcana 2 and Vertex² were built for it.
